My Weta report



Introduction

Weta's are members of the insect family and they
are endemic  to New Zealand.They are also the
heaviest insect in New Zealand.
                                         
      Appearance
The legs on the Weta look like spiders legs. The bottom legs also look like brushes the Weta
has a shell that looks like a bees, and at the
bottom of the Weta it looks like a stinger.


Habitat


Weta like to live in Grasslands, shrub land,
forest, and caves tree Weta live in holes in trees.


                                          Diet
Weta eat native plants so you can call them
herbivores.Different weta like different native
plants.
                                
                       Lifecycle
Female weta lay eggs in the autumn and
winter and they hatch in the spring the female
weta also have these pointy bits at the end of
them.this is called an ovipositor and it is for
digging in the ground and laying eggs.When
weta start to grow it sheds its skin or exoskeleton
this is because when
it is growing the exoskeleton becomes to tight
for the weta so this is why the do it regularly to
grow and they do it about 10 times.


Threats
Weta are prey to rats, possums, cats, and more.....  
Conclusion

The weta is a special insect and the department
of conservation is looking after them.
